LAKHIMPUR: As a part of its extension and field study programme, the Assamese Department of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) had organised a series of academic events on April 30 and May 1 at Ghunasuti, one of the outreach areas of Lakhimpur District.

On the first day, a symposium on "Tribal Culture of Assam: Heritage and Modernity" was organised in association with Ghunasuti HS School at the school auditorium. In the same event, the Assamese Department of the college had donated a bundle of books to the school. In the course of the programme the team of students and professors of the department held a meeting at the Buddhist Temple with the Khamti community of Ghunasuti. In the evening, two movies namely 'Kanikar Ramdhenu' directed by Jahnu Baruah and 'Call of the Wild' directed by Chris Sanders were screened in the auditorium of Ghunasuti HS School in the presence of almost two hundred people. A discussion followed that was followed by a poetry recitation and review programme titled as 'Ei Naokhon Thakibo Jetiyaloike'. On May 1, the students had collected information about the life of the tribal people living in Ghunasuti area, their native culture and the impact of modernity on their culture. The Assamese Department of the college will publish the collected information, compiling them as study reports, in various journals.
